Based in St. Augustine, Florida but made in Johannesburg, South Africa, the business was started in 2020. Wild Pair Trading is inspired by a love for good design, beautiful fabrics, and travel.
Wild Pair Trading’s designer, Deborah, was born in Durban on the East Coast of South Africa and into a culture of creative innovators. Growing up along the salty coast, enjoying spicy Indian curries and wandering the local markets full of colorful, beaded inspirations would make a life-long impact on her.
Over many years of working in interior design, Deborah discovered a passion for beautiful fabric and rather quirky love for well-designed slippers. After moving to the United States, The idea of combining her roots, locally-made South African fabrics, and travel slipper mules was born.
Designed and crafted by a small team of local South African artisans, we strive to use sustainable materials to construct our fun travel slippers. The Amari workshop is located in Johannesburg, and is owned and operated by Heidi, a close friend of Deborah’s. In addition to creating our lovely slippers, the Amari workshop also crafts quality accessories and soft furnishings.
Our slippers are constructed from 100% cotton shweshwe, which is a traditional fabric made in South Africa. We choose fabrics in a variety of fun colors to add some cheer to your travels.
Shweshwe fabric is sometimes affectionately referred to as the tartan of Africa. Printed, dyed cotton fabrics in vivacious, bright colors. Originally printed only in indigo and worn proudly in South Africa.
The creator of Wild Pair Trading, Deborah has a background in Interior Design and many years experience in the boutique retail industry.
